The Outcomes-Based Education Model (OBE) is the basis for the medical curriculum design of the Liceo de Cagayan University College of Medicine.
The curriculum covers four years of academic and clinical training, wherein the fourth-year level is devoted to a 12-month clinical clerkship program.
LEVEL 1: BASIC SCIENCES (Normal Structure, Function, and Behavior) This level provides the first-year students with a strong foundation in human anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology, histology, physiology, biochemistry with genetics and nutrition, preventive and community medicine, patient-doctor relations, and research necessary for their comprehensive understanding of the normal human body and functions.
LEVEL 2: BASIC SCIENCES (Abnormal Structure, Function, and Behavior) This level provides the second-year students with a strong foundation in general pathology, pharmacology and therapeutics, microbiology, parasitology, pediatrics with child protection, physical diagnosis, principles of surgery, behavioral medicine, preventive and community medicine, patient-doctor relations, and research necessary for their comprehensive understanding of pathological conditions affecting the human body.
LEVEL 3: CLINICAL SCIENCES This level provides the third-year students with theoretical and clinical foundation in neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, surgery with rehabilitation, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, radiology with imaging modalities, advanced pathology, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, anesthesiology, legal and forensic medicine, medical ethics necessary for their comprehensive understanding of medical conditions for effective management and interventions.
LEVEL 4: CLINICAL CLERKSHIP This level provides the fourth-year students with hospital-based clinical experience in the areas of internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, public health, psychiatry, pathology, radiology, integrated courses, ear, eye, nose throat, dermatology, and neurology necessary for furthering understanding of medical conditions, developing medical skills, and learning effective disease management. This level likewise reviews the medical clerks of their basic sciences subjects through the Clerkship Review Program during the protected time.
