LICEAN JOURNOS EARN TOP SPOTS IN RSPC 2025
Liceo de Cagayan University Senior High School proudly made its mark in the recently concluded 2025 Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held in Lanao del Norte, as Grade 11 student Jihan Joahara C. Pajo clinched 5th place in editorial writing, while the school’s TV Broadcasting team, The Sentinel, bagged multiple major awards, including the title of 4th Best TV Newscast in Northern Mindanao.
Pajo, a Humanities and Social Sciences student, was one of 14 editorial writers from across the region. Despite being a newcomer in the press conference scene, she proved her mettle by ranking among the top five.
“This RSPC meant more to me than a mere competition; it was a chance at growth as a journalist and proof that I had what it takes to be the truth's voice,” Pajo shared in a virtual interview.
Meanwhile, The Sentinel, composed of seven young broadcasters, earned recognition as Northern Mindanao’s 4th Best TV Newscast, topping the 1st Best in Developmental Communication and placing 3rd Best in Technical Application — an impressive feat considering the team's relatively recent formation and first-time experience in regional competition.
The team members include, Jehannah Mae Sta Rita (Anchor), Sophia Skai Singayan (News Presenter/Scriptwriter), Ghia Bella Joice Aranas (News Presenter/Writer), John Paul Sayson (News Presenter/Writer), Josalisel Lutao (Video Editor), Airon Chiu (Video Editor/News Presenter), and Miguel Benedict Escudero (Video Journalist/Writer).
Their journey to the RSPC stage began with a strong showing at the November 2024 DSPC, where they dominated the TV Broadcasting category and took home several special awards.
Behind both triumphs is the unwavering mentorship of Nap S. Caruz, LPT, whose guidance has elevated The Titans’ presence in campus journalism across local and regional stages.
With a spirit of excellence and journalistic integrity, Liceo U continues to raise the bar, not only representing their school with pride, but also exemplifying the power of youth voices in the field of campus journalism.
