LICEAN EDUCATORS PARTICIPATE IN WORKSHOPS ON GEN AI INTEGRATION IN RESEARCH WRITING
DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — Dr. Dominic T. Polancos, Director of the Liceo Research Ethics Board, and Dr. Nicolyne B. Monsanto, Director of Alumni Affairs, joined two in-person workshops at Silliman University's Dr. Mariano C. Lao Global Studies Center in November, focusing on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic research.
The first workshop, titled Crafting an AI Integration Framework, was held on November 13 and 14, 2024. It explored the practical applications of Generative AI (GenAI) in research and the development of frameworks to effectively incorporate AI tools into research methodologies.
Key topics included the benefits of GenAI in enhancing research productivity, strategies for prompt engineering, and the ethical considerations surrounding AI use in academic settings.
The second workshop, Using Generative AI in Research Writing, took place on November 18 and 19, 2024. The session focused on the use of AI, particularly tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, for research writing, with a focus on maximizing AI’s potential while understanding its limitations.
Participants engaged in discussions about how these tools can assist in drafting, refining, and organizing research papers, as well as the ethical concerns associated with their use.
Throughout both workshops, Polancos and Monsanto received hands-on guidance, fostering an interactive environment where participants could directly apply AI tools to their research. Ethical considerations, such as bias in AI-generated content and the responsible use of AI in academic work, were emphasized.
The workshops were part of an ongoing effort by Silliman University to equip its faculty and students with the skills needed to navigate the evolving landscape of AI in research and academia.
Liceo U’s participation in the workshop series demonstrated its continuous commitment to innovation and the exploration of Artificial Intelligence’s potential, particularly in the field of research.
